This exciting role will provide you with an opportunity to work in a pivotal role within a busy, innovative and rapidly expanding area of care, hosted by a world leading specialist paediatric hospital. North Thames GMS are looking for an exceptional Executive Assistant with extensive EA experience to join our team, who can provide high level professional administrative support to the Chief Operating Offer, Co-Medical Directors, and the GLH and GMSA Senior Leadership Teams.

Responsibilities are varied and include (but are not limited to) managing multiple diaries, scheduling various meetings, producing minutes, and coordinating arrangements for meetings and events as well as administering financial transactions.

You will have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills and be fluent in the use of Microsoft Office, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels and maintain effective internal and external contacts, you will have a flexible approach to the working day to meet tight and varying deadlines and be someone who works well as part of a team.

Applicants should, be highly motivated and flexible with a track record of delivering high quality administration and EA support.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is required to support the co-ordination and scheduling of regular board level and management meetings, maintenance of action logs and risk register, diary management, and collation of data and other returns from across the NT GMS. The role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously to deliver the core administrative function for their nominated team, ensuring that governance processes and standards are adhered to.

Job overview

Applications are invited from State Registered Clinical Scientists in Genomics; scientists close to registration will also be considered.

The scientist will be joining the team at the North Thames Rare Disease Laboratory Hub at Great Ormond Street Hospital. We are seeking enthusiastic, self-motivated scientists with experience of genomic service delivery and a sound understanding of molecular and cytogenetic techniques and analysis. Accomplished communication and organisational skills are required. We support trained scientists who wish to adopt flexible and/or partially remote working patterns.

Main duties of the job

The Rare Disease Laboratory has an establishment of approximately 140 including technologists, clinical scientists, translational scientists, bioinformaticians and administrative support staff. Along with two Clinical Genetics teams we form a strategic Genetics Unit within the hospital and provide North London with a Regional Genetics Service serving a population of approximately 10 million. The laboratory provides an in house diagnostic service for cancer, molecular and cytogenetic testing in accordance with the NHS England Genomic Test Directory; this includes services for 11 of the designated specialist areas for the NHSE Genomic Medicine Service. Cytogenetic testing is provided for both prenatal and postnatal samples using SNP microarray, karyotyping, FISH, qPCR, QF PCR and MLPA. Molecular testing includes next generation sequencing and targeted tests. We are also engaged in the delivery and ramping up of the NHSE GMS Whole Genome Sequencing programme for our North Thames patients.

We are involved in a number of collaborative research and development projects with colleagues at the UCL Institute of Child Health and Institute of Neurology as part of the UCL Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre. We provide a DNA preparation and storage service in support of many of these projects.
